Rs1.2b earmarked for development in IUB budget

VC claims a total of Rs8b will be spent under three-year plan on various educational projects

Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) VC Dr Athar Mahboob said on Wednesday that over Rs1.27 billion had been allocated for development purpose in the university's current financial year budget.

Speaking to the media, he revealed that under the three-year development plan, a total of Rs8 billion will be spent on the completion of different developmental and educational projects in the university.

“Under a comprehensive plan, this huge amount will be spent on the construction of five academic buildings, four hostels for male and female students, more than 300 residential units for university staff, a dedicated auditorium and students services centre during the next three years.”

He stated that IUB's Department of Plant Breeding and genetics had successfully evolved three new cotton varieties of IUB-13, IUB-222 and MM-58 while continuing its research. “The institute will soon evolve another cotton variety IUB-4 which will be resistant to the cotton diseases.”
