Model-cum-actor Rabia Chaudhry has poured her heart and ache out in a recent Instagram post dedicated to her 2016 divorce from music maestro Mekaal Hasan.

In an elaborate note alongside her own picture, Chaudhry acknowledged, “Putting yourself out there, making declarations, having a voice will have its pros and cons.

“You all have been so supportive after I shared part of my story,” recalled the Mannchalay actor. “Thank you for your support, kind words and so much love. Along with that came some backlash, albeit a small amount but I feel like I must address it because it echoes the mindset that puts us in a constant state of fear, the conditioning that has resulted in women being dragged down and shamed century after century,” pointed out the celebrity.

She continued to admit that her post may change nothing, but even if it initiates a dialogue, it will “hold value in the lives of those that are struggling with their own set of challenges.”

Chaudhry also believes it may give courage to the women who are being misled. “It may give courage to that one woman who is being misled into believing that staying silent and tolerating abuse of any kind, staying in a situation where there’s no growth, no matter how much of herself she gives she’s to expect nothing in return, is the noble path to take.”

The Actor identified how eventually, the only claim to fame of a woman becomes her sacrificed dreams, voice and life, because of the path she was made to choose.

Divorce is not easy. When I said it didn’t always have to mean sadness, I didn’t mean you come out of it dancing straight away, or throw a divorce party and get the entire marriage ordeal out of your system, oh gosh no!” claimed Chaudhry. “I meant it could be the best decision you ever make in your life considering the circumstances you find yourself in as the relationship progresses, or in some cases, shows a lack of progress” she added.

Chaudhry went on to address the people who were speculating the reasons for her divorce; however, she believes that is irrelevant. “I appreciate the concern. I will divulge this much so everyone rests at ease. There was temporary emotional damage, nothing that I couldn’t come out of better and stronger. Not all women are so lucky and can stand up for themselves, which is why sharing stories of strength is so important,” continued the model.

Becoming the sunshine she was clearly focused on, Chaudhry went on to explain how although there’s only one life, it can offer many chances at finding happiness and a bad relationship isn’t the end game.

Despite her heartbreak, she reinstated that “marriage is a beautiful institution provided there’s mutual respect, admiration, equality, communication and love. Need I say more?

In an Instagram post prior to this, Chaudhry had said, “Divorce doesn’t always mean sadness. I always knew people can be crass and ill-mannered, but there isn’t anything like experiencing it first-hand. I don’t even so much as humour these types, but in some situations one just HAS to put their foot down.”

Reminiscing how she tied the knot just a few years ago, and then divorced soon after, Chaudhry pointed out that during the entire phase she never put her private life up for people to speculate about. Still, she did not blame anyone for being curious. “I’d also like to add that divorce doesn’t always mean sadness and death and haey bachi ki zindagi tabaaah ho gai! It could also mean bachi ki zindagi tabaah honay say bach gayee,” she remarked.

To sum it all up, Chaudhry looked upon her divorce as a “second chance at love, at life, at all the wonderfully amazing chapters that may have never actualised had you chosen the dead-end as your destiny. Choose to thrive.”
