The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have hit back at the opposition 11-party alliance, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), after it held a rally in Multan despite the government’s attempts to stop it citing increase in number of coronavirus cases across the country.
Opposition leaders including PDM chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Maryam Nawaz, Aseefa Bhutto-Zardari among others addressed the gathering and vowed to send the PTI-led government packing, accusing it of coming into power via rigged elections.
Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry taking to his official Twitter handle described the alliance of opposition parties, headed by Fazl, saying: “The Bacha Party, led by the Godfather, is running the Abu Bachao campaign [save the father campaign]”. The term, Fawad often uses to mock his opponents by claiming that the opposition’s anti-government movement is only aimed at escaping accountability process to save their “ill-gotten assets”.

In another tweet, the federal minister took an aim at PML-N leader Maryam saying that the manner in which she flouted the coronavirus SOPs reflected her mentality.
“What does she want to prove by not wearing a mask? It is unfortunate that such non-serious and arrogant leaders want to lead Pakistan. May God get rid country from such leaders after coronavirus,” he wrote in Urdu on his Twitter handle.

PTI Senator Faisal Javed Khan called the PDM’s Multan public gathering as yet another flop show “but at the cost of people’s lives”.
The PDM’s objective is to seek relief from Prime Minister Imran Khan in corruption cases, he said, adding that the opposition’s attempt to blackmail the government will not yield any results.
“It’s an attack on the safety of people and growing economy,” APP quoted him as saying.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz while taking a jibe at PPP leaders said they need to do retrospection on the party’s 53rd foundation day to figure out as how they confined a federal party to the province of Sindh.
The minister, in a tweet, said the people of Sindh are wailing for getting rid of the “incompetent gang which had been imposed on them for the last 12 years”.
