Who I choose to marry is my personal decision: Mehwish Hayat

'Punjab Nahi Jaungi' actor slams publications for 'matchmaking'

Entertainment Desk November 30, 2020

Mehwish Hayat had opened up about her preferences in men and reasons for singlehood in an earlier conversation with Begum Nawazish Ali, the video of which surfaced on YouTube earlier this month.

But as several publications reported on what she had to say, the Load Wedding star took to Twitter on Sunday to call out the media for 'matchmaking' by churning out "unnecessarily juicy headlines" from "two-year-old interviews."

“Who I choose to marry is my personal decision and people will know when it happens! Take a chill pill guys and stop matchmaking!” she wrote.

Hayat went on to call out publications for running ahead of themselves, writing, “Let’s not take a throwaway line in a 2-year-old interview out of context and make unnecessarily juicy headlines. Aur bhi gham hain zamane mein shadi k siwaa! (There are bigger problems in life than marriage)”

In an episode of By The Way, while speaking about her ideal man Hayat had said, "He has to have a good height. It doesn’t matter if he’s not fair-skinned, a man should look like a man. Thori si mardana wajahat, thora uncha lamba qad, ek swag hona chahiye (He should be masculine, tall and suave!)."

Following this, Ali pointed out that he had the perfect bachelor in mind, “Really?” asked Hayat. “Yes, somebody important, influential, and young and it’s his first time in the parliament.” Confused, Hayat made her guess. “Bilawal?” Ali replied, “I didn’t say it, but now that you have, what’s wrong with Bilawal?”

“There’s nothing wrong with him, I think he’s very good looking...I wouldn't have a problem as long as we click” replied the Punjab Nahi Jaungi actor.
