East wins inter-district hockey tourney

KARACHI:

District East Hockey team was feted at a dinner reception for winning the Sindh Inter-district Hockey Championship at impressive ceremony held at the KHA Sports Complex on Thursday.

The ceremony was organised by the KHA on the support of Sindh Sports department to honour the victorious team for wining laurels after a long time in the 12- teams contest.

Secretary Sports Sindh Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah who graced the ceremony presented Rs.10,000 each to the players and officials of the team.

A special cash price of rupees 10,000 was also given to the tournament director Aslam Khan Niazi.

He also decorated the players with gold medals.

Captain of the team Shahbaz Ali received the trophy from the chief guest Syed Imtiaz Ali Shah in the presence of Sindh women Minster Syeda Shehla Raza, Olympian Hanif Khan and KHA Secretary Haider Hussain.

Asked about reforms in the Sindh Sports Department the Secretary said draft proposal of provincial sports policy is in the pipe line and will be made public soon.

“Upon its implementation, Sindh will become the first province of the country to create its own sports policy for the betterment of sports,”

Imtiaz Ali Shah said he has directed to the Engineering Wing for preparation of PC-1/Rough estimated coast of lying Blue Astro Turf, Electronic Score Board and construction of players hostel and summary for CM will be moved through Advisor to CM Mr. Bangul Khan Mahar for allocation of funds.

He said it is the vision of Sports Advisor To CM Mr Bangul Khan Mahar to promote sports in the province.

KHA patron-in-chief Vice Admiral (R) Syed Arifullah Husseni praised the District East Hockey Team and asked them to maintain the competitive spirit.

He said it is our strategy to organised more and more events that is vital for reviving the game.

Speaking on the occasion Syeda Shehla Raza said it is a good omen that hockey activities have been revived after a long time due to encroachment of play grounds in the city.

She said the government will construct hockey fields in every districts of the province.

She commended District East Hockey Team and proudly said she is also a resident of District East.

The KHA president Dr Syed Junaid Ali Shah Also attended three programs for some time and lauded the hard work of district East hockey team.

The Secretary Sports presented Air Tickets to two players namely Sultan Mehmood and Arbaz Ayaz from karachi to Peshawar to compete in the National Under 16 Hockey Championship from Sindh team.

The ceremony was organised under strict SOP’s and dinner boxes were served on the tables.

Famous anchor Mirza Iqbal Baig did the comparing.

KHA officials Gulfaraz Khan and Haider Hussain Thanked the chief guest for sparing time for the youthful hockey team and presenting cash awards to them.

Other KHA officials who were present on the occasion were Amir Aziz,Nadeem Jaffery, Ajaz uddin , Abuzar Umrao, Javeed Iqbal, Pervaiz Iqbal, Riaz Uddin , Mustafa Jameel , Irfan Tahir, Nadeem Ahmed and Arshad.
