Pakistan summons Indian diplomat to register protest over ceasefire violation

Pakistan on Thursday summoned the Indian Chargé d´Affaires in Islamabad to register a strong protest with New Delhi over the unprovoked ceasefire violation along the Line of Control (LoC) that resulted in the martyrdom of an innocent civilian.

According to a statement issued by the FO, India has committed 2,840 ceasefire violations this year, resulting in 27 martyrdoms and serious injuries to 245 innocent civilians.

Condemning the targeting of innocent civilians by the Indian armed forces, it was underscored that such senseless acts, in clear violation of the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding and complete disregard for international human rights and international norms, are a threat to regional peace and security.

"By raising tensions along the LoC and the WB, India cannot divert attention from the grave human rights situation in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJ&K)," said the FO.

"These egregious violations of international law reflect consistent Indian attempts to escalate the situation along the LoC and are a threat to regional peace and security," the statement read.

The Indian side was called to investigate such incidents of deliberate ceasefire violations and maintain peace along the LoC and Working Boundary. The Indian side and was also urged to allow the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to play its mandated role as per the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Resolutions.
