Cops retrieve CCTV footage for missing baby

CCTV footage surfacing on Monday shows a veiled woman mentioned as the suspect

The police have yet to recover an infant girl who went missing from Bahadurabad over the weekend.

CCTV footage surfacing on Monday shows a veiled woman mentioned as the suspect by the baby's father, but two days after the abduction, the police have failed to trace the woman or rescue the child.

A kidnapping case was lodged at New Town Police Station the same day as the alleged abduction - Saturday - on behalf of the infant's father, Muhammad Amjad, a resident of Bin Qasim Muhalla in Landhi.

According to Amjad's statement to the police, he, his wife Hina and sister Azra had gone with the two-month-old child to collect a token for a doctor's appointment at Alamgir Welfare Trust (Clinic) in Bahadurabad at 5am on the day.

Hina was heading back home around 2:30pm, said Amjad, when a woman approached her and asked to hold two-month-old Huma in her arms. Hina gave the baby to the woman and they walked together towards Charminar Chowrangi but around 3:30pm the woman suddenly disappeared with the baby, according to Amjad.

The police lodged the kidnapping case, nominating the unidentified woman on Amjad's complaint and forwarded the matter to the Anti-Violent Crime Cell for investigation.

The CCTV footage, which emerged on Monday, shows a woman in a veil walking with Hina and Azra towards Charminar Chowrangi. The video was fetched from a camera installed near the clinic and more videos are being retrieved to assess the direction in which the suspect took the baby.
