PESHAWAR:

Police on Thursday found the charred remains of a seven-year-old girl who had been reported as missing a few days ago.

Subsequent medical examination of the girl’s body confirmed she had been raped and murdered before being set on fire.

The Badhaber police on Thursday was called to a cemetery on the outskirts of the city after locals found the remains of the girl.

Officials said that a few days ago, Meraj had filed a missing person report for his seven-year-old daughter Laiya. They suspected that the body they recovered was the same girl.

As news of the incident spread, locals blocked the main Kohat Road to protest what they claim are rising incidents of sexual abuse and murder of minors. They added that this was the third such case reported in the area.

They demanded that the government take strict measures to curb such incidents while an example should be made an example of.

Meanwhile, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Bin Gandapur took notice of the incident and formed a high-powered investigation team under SSP investigation Nowsherwan Khan. He added that the culprits will soon be caught.

Meanwhile, doctors at the local hospital completed their medico-legal report, confirming that the minor girl has been raped and then, to eliminate the evidence, had been murdered and then torched.

Chief Minister Mahmood Khan also took notice of the incident and directed the police to take swift action against the culprits. Condemning the incident, Mahmood told the police to submit a report on the matter soon.
