An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Kandhkot handed over Khairullah Bugti, the accused in Kashmore rape case, on a seven-day judicial remand to the police on Thursday.
According to the police, Rafiq Malak, another accused in the case who was shot dead by Bugti, had lured a woman to Kashmore and sold her and her five-year-old daughter to Bugti. The woman and child were both gang-raped.
Malak was later arrested in a sting operation by the local police and the child was rescued.
The police produced Bugti before the court on Thursday and sought a 14-day judicial remand. The ATC, however, remanded him for seven days.
According to DSP Muhammad Panah Bhutto, who is heading the joint investigation team (JIT) formed to probe into the rape case, the matter is being investigated and a conclusive JIT report will be submitted to the Qambar-Shahdadkot SSP after the statement of the accused and victims and all available evidence is scrutinised.
