Sindh reports 16 more Covid-19 fatalities

Another 1,193 cases recorded, with 837 detected in Karachi alone

At least 16 more people succumbed to the coronavirus in Sindh, which reported 1,193 new cases on Thursday.

Another 14,470 tests were conducted between Wednesday and Thursday, and 260 patients recovered during the same time period, according to a statement issued by the Chief Minister's House.

The provincial Covid-19 tally of confirmed infections stands at 159,752 and a total of 1,859,287 tests have been conducted thus far. Moreover, as many as 2,780 persons have died of the virus in Sindh while 144,316 patients have recovered.

The number of confirmed active cases stands at 12,656, a figure that has been rapidly increasing over the past couple of weeks. At least 529 patients have been hospitalised, where the conditions of 449 persons is said to be critical with at least 47 shifted on ventilators. Of the remaining patients, 12,119 are in home isolation and eight are admitted at isolation centres.

Of the new cases, 837 were reported from Karachi, 143 from Hyderabad, Sukkur reported 19 new cases, Matiari 18, Umerkot 14, Shaheed Benazirabad and Dadu 11 each, Thatta 10, Mirpurkhas and Ghotki eight each, Jamshoro seven, Jacobabad, Qambar-Shahdadkot and Naushero Feroze five each, Sanghar and Tando Allahyar three each, Badin and Shikarpur two each and Kashmore and Khairpur reported one apiece.
