Nawaz urges G-B residents to vote for PML-N

Ousted premier asks people to guard their ballot from being ‘stolen’

LAHORE:

Former premier Nawaz Sharif has urged the residents of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) to not only cast their votes for the PML-N but also guard it from being “stolen” during the region’s polls on November 15 (today).

In a video message, Sharif observed that the people of the region would not let democracy be toyed around and that they will not fall for false promises or act under duress.

He called upon the voters of G-B to not let anyone come in the way of progress that they had witnessed during the “PML-N rule”.

“The time for Gilgit-Baltistan voters has come to guard their votes. On 15th [November], people of the region will ensure nothing comes in the way of their glorious future,” he said.

Sharif hailed the residents of the region saying he had seen passion in G-B voters during the PML-N rallies led by party leaders Maryam Nawaz, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Ahsan Iqbal and former chief minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman.

“Two years back, democracy in Pakistan was derailed and the sanctity of vote was desecrated, which resulted in the derailment of country’s economy,” he said.

“People of G-B are well aware of all these painful realities. They have learnt a lesson and will not let anyone gamble with their future,” he added.

In a related development, PML-N Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb lambasted the incumbent regime saying “the ‘imposed’ government's ‘rented mouthpieces’ are desperate to distract media and public attention after the discovery of ballot paper theft from Gilgit-Baltistan”.

“The statements made by these ‘rented’ spokespersons are a proof of the fact that PTI knows it has already lost the G-B polls,” she said in a statement.

Marriyum described the PML-N rallies in the G-B as a “raging flood of people” and expressed the hope that her party would make a landslide victory in the polls.

 “Their (opposition) panic shows that PML-N will win.”

Marriyum asked the people of G-B and PML-N workers to film and upload any instances of “vote-theft” or “rigging” on the elections day.
