Court orders accused’s arrest

In the murder case of anchorperson Mureed Abbas

A local court directed the police on Saturday to arrest Adil Zaman, an accused in the murder case of anchorperson Mureed Abbas, and produce him before the court at the next hearing.

The orders were issued by the South additional district and sessions judge during the hearing at Karachi Central jail’s judicial complex, where the petitioner’s counsel also filed a plea moving the court to declare Adil an absconder. He said the case’s trial had been underway for a year, but the accused was yet to be indicted.

The counsel further stated that the case proceedings had been facing delays as the police continued to seek extensions for the accused’s arrest.

At this, police informed the court that a team had been sent to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in order to arrest the accused.

The court directed the police to arrest Adil and produce him at the next hearing on November 26.

On September 10, Adil had managed to escape from court premises after the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry cancelled his bail.
