Dwarf sports festival commences in Peshawar

The festival includes traditional mainstream sports like archery, cricket, football, tug of war and musical chairs

The annual Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Dwarf Sports Festival kicked off at the historical Tehmas Khan Football Stadium on Tuesday.

Peshawar Assistant Commissioner Inayat Atta inaugurated the short sports festival which comprises just five sports. A total of 52 players from five districts including Karak, Kohat, Peshawar, Nowshera and Bannu are participating in the games.

The festival includes traditional mainstream sports including archery, cricket, football, tug of war and musical chairs.

On the opening day, a football match was held where Kohat beat Peshawar by four goals. Noor Zaman and Shahnawaz scored a brace each on either side of the half-time whistle as Kohat cruised to victory.

Earlier, Peshawar District Sports Officer Tehseen Ullah, while addressing the media, said that the government is providing opportunities to all sections of society for healthy activities.

He said that the provincial sports department recently organised a sports festival for members of the transgender community of the province, and now a festival had been organised for people with alternative heights so that they can be provided with sporting opportunities.

The participants of the festival lauded the K-P Sports Department for encouraging dwarfs and providing them with sports opportunities.
