Sindh saw 720 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday - the highest reported in a single day since the end of July - said Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on the day. Meanwhile, he added, the contagion claimed 14 more lives.

Following this, the province's Covid-19 tally has soared to 152,072 and the death toll has climbed to 2,704.

Meanwhile, 449 more patients recovered from the contagion overnight.

"The situation in the province is worsening, as the current detection rate has increased to 6.4 per cent," with over 700 persons testing positive for Covid-19 of 11,146 screened in a single day, the CM expressed concern. Speaking of the detection rate, he added, "It is quite high and worrisome, and needs to be contained with the cooperation of citizens."

The CM added that Karachi had a positive detection rate of 8.17 per cent, while Hyderabad - which the National Command and Operations Centre recently highlighted as the city with the highest ratio in the country - stood at 11.81 per cent.

He gave a breakdown of the newly reported cases, stating that 522 of the infections were detected in Karachi, 49 in Hyderabad, 19 in Tando Muhammad Khan, 10 in Sanghar, nine in Matiari, six in Sukkur, five each in Dadu, Jacobabad and Jamshoro, four each in Badin, Larkana and Shaheed Benazirabad, two each in Khairpur, Naushero Feroze and Shikarpur and one each in Ghotki, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Sujawal.

As many as 7,922 patients are currently under treatment, with 7,562 in home isolation, five at isolation centres and 355 admitted to different hospitals. At least 329 of them are said to be in critical condition, with 35 on ventilators.

The CM stressed, "We all will have to change our lifestyles, incorporating [pandemic-related] standard operating procedures in our daily lives," warning that otherwise the government would have no option but to take "drastic measures."
