PESHAWAR:

Another complaint of academic theft has been filed with the registrar of the Peshawar University against faculty members of the environment department.

The complainant, Associate Professor Dr Nauman Ahmad of the Agricultural Chemistry Department applied with the University of Peshawar (UoP) registrar, stating that a Masters in Philosophy (MPhil) research conducted by one of his students, Sehrish Khan, on Response of chilli to tropospheric ozone using ethylene di urea as Anti-ozonant - which he supervised along with Dr Shahida Zakir in 2013 and 2014, had been recently republished under the names of Dr Shahida Nazneen and Professor Dr Sardar Khan and Dr Neelam Ara of the Environmental Science department.

Prof Ahmad said that the research has been published without their consent.

“Research work of his co-supervised scholar has been published by the subject individuals without the consent of the concerned supervisor/co-supervisor and termed it as an academic theft,” Prof Ahmed wrote in the application.

He added that the names of environmental science department officials are not included in the author’s list and did not contribute to the research at any stage because they were not related to it before its publication.

Prof Ahmad requested the UoP registrar, vice-chancellor along with the HEC to take action against the academic theft conducted.
