ISLAMABAD:

Federal Industries Secretary Aziz Ahmad Bilour said on Monday the government was trying to convince investors to invest in productive sectors within the country rather than investing in real estate.

Talking to a delegation of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) led by its President Syed Ali Raza, Bilour said there were clear signs of improvement in the industrial sector.

He said the government would look into the proposal to establish a special economic zone in the region to promote cluster industry.

He said the energy situation would considerably improve, as the energy import and production projects would mature in the near future.

RCCI President Ali Raza said an export processing zone should be established in the RCCI industrial estate in Rawat. He said furniture, pharmaceutical, gems and jewellery, steel, wheat products, garments and marble businesses needed government support to flourish and expand.

For this purpose, he said, RCCI had established a research and design section which helped the industry introduce modern techniques of production.
