Madinah Town police registered a case against the nominated accused including Kazim Farooq, Hafiz Habib and Nilofar Bibi as well as four unknown persons and launched raids to recover the abductee. Further investigation into the matter was under progress.

Cases of abduction of women were not uncommon in the province.

On October 1, a woman was abducted reportedly from a bus stop near a police station and gang-raped in Nankana Sahib district.

The woman was dumped in a field afterwards and the suspects fled from the scene.

The victim, a student of BS Honors, was married to Omar. However, the rukhsati ceremony was still pending. Meanwhile, the victim had filed a case for divorce in a court. The man was reportedly annoyed over his wife’s decision of separation.

He allegedly got her abducted with the help of two accomplices.

In May last year, a 25-year-old preganant woman was abducted from Data Darbar.

The victim and her husband Abdul Razzaq had come to the shrine to pay homage to the Sufi saint. When the two separated, he headed towards the male area and the victim towards the female area.

After Abdul Razzaq offered his prayers, he returned to the designated area to wait for his wife. When he realised that his wife did not return, he tried calling her, but to no avail. He later came to know she was abducted.
