Second phase of polio drive begins

The second phase of the Sindh-wide polio vaccination campaign started on Monday, with a target of giving the vaccine to 2.3 million children under the age of five years in Karachi, and six million more children across the rest of Sindh.

The campaign will continue in different parts of Sindh, including Karachi, until November 8.

In the first phase of the drive, 3.4 million children were administered the vaccine in Larkana, Sukkur and Shaheed Benazirabad.

AS many as 22 cases of polio have been reported in the province so far this year, with one detected in Karachi.

The polio teams have been given tight security, while authorities have appealing to parents to have their children vaccinated against the virus.
