Police launch awareness drive on child abuse

Team of police officers, psychologist will help victims and their families

The district police on Saturday started “ Mahfooz Bachay, Roshan Mustaqbil” or Safe Kids, Bright Future campaign to sensitise parents, children and civil society about the increasing threat of child abuse.

Hazara Division DIG Qazi Jameelur Rehman addressing the inaugural session of the campaign said that child rape cases were increasing in the last few years.

He said there was a need to make people aware of measures to prevent their children from this heinous crime.

“We have launched this drive in Abbottabad district and soon it will be extended to other districts of the division,” he said.

Hazara police would get the cooperation of schools, colleges, universities, madrassas, civil society, transporters to make the campaign successful, the DIG said.

Under the supervision of District Police Officer (DPO), a committee has been formed comprising SP investigation, police officer and psychologists to curb the menace, he added.

He said that in case of any such incident, the team would help the victim child and would meet the parents and to support the traumatised child.

Police have also started a toll free number 1120 where any citizen can contact and inform about child abuse case.
