ADB lauds Pakistan’s smart lockdown

Shaikh appreciated the strong support extended by ADB for fight against Covid-19

Prime Minister Imran Khan’s smart lockdown strategy is ideal in striking a balance between lives and livelihoods, said Asian Development Bank (ADB) Vice President Shixin Chen. In a virtual session with Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Abdul Hafeez Shaikh on Wednesday, he lauded socio-economic coverage extended to the marginalised section of the society and shared ADB’s commitment to continue its support in the future. In his remarks, Shaikh appreciated the strong support extended by ADB for fight against Covid-19 and firm commitment to bring about essential reforms in Pakistan in areas of energy, transport, water and urban services and the social sector. He shared a brief overview on the current economic situation and highlighted the measures taken by the government to protect the vulnerable from the pandemic. The government had to shift from its pre-Covid fiscal tightening in order to provide relief to the masses and businesses during these testing times, he added.
