The project engineer of 100 dams Muhammad Ibrahim Mengal on Tuesday disclosed that 24 dams are under-construction in South Balochistan at a cost of billions of rupees.
“60 to 65 per cent work has been completed,” he said, adding that no compromise would be made on the quality of construction which would be completed at the earliest.
Mengal further stated that work was underway on 24 dams in Washuk, Awaran and other areas of South Balochistan under the federal government package three. “Some of the dams will be completed by December 2020 and the rest by June 2021.”
He also said that 20 dams would also be constructed in South Balochistan under package four. The project engineer also said measures were being taken to complete the dam projects in order to improve ground water level for reducing the water problems that stretch throughout the province.
Mengal noted that the Chief Minister of Balochistan Jam Kamal was of the view that dams are essential for agriculture and livestock sectors and this is why he was also paying special attention towards the project of dam construction.
