RDA takes ICCI chief on board for Ring Road

Chamber chief sees businesses relocating to R3 economic zones

Taking input from the business community of development of Special Economic Zones along Rawalpindi Ring Road (R3) project will help in formulating business friendly policies and strengthen investors’ confidence.

Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICC) President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan said this while addressing the executive committee of the chamber.

ICCI president said that the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has set a good precedent by including the representatives of business community in Facilitation Committee for SEZs and urged that Capital Development Authority (CDA) to also include the sitting President of ICCI in its Board and in other important Committees in order to protect the interests of business community during policy making process of CDA.

He said giving representation to ICCI in the CDA Board and in its committees would be very helpful in resolving key issues of the business community and developing the infrastructure in markets, industrial areas and the whole city with joint efforts.

Industrial zones along planned Rawalpindi Ring Road (R3) project offer a unique investment opportunity to the industrialists of the federal capital, said Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICC) President Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan on Monday.

The three industrial estates in Islamabad have become saturated due to over-construction owing to which investors are looking for industrial plots in other areas.

The R3 project would start a new era of development in the twin cities, he said in a statement.

Yasir said that development of business hubs, industrial zones, transport terminals, fruits and vegetables wholesale markets, logistic and education hubs, health city, dry port, recreational parks and residential estates along would trigger enormous economic activities.

Development will subsequently create employment opportunities leading to overall prosperity in the Potohar region, the ICCI chief said.

Yasir said the R3 would not only reduce traffic congestion in the twin cities, but it would also provide a clean, healthy and safe environment besides making significant contributions to national development.

Fatma Azim Senior Vice President, Abdul Rehman Khan Vice President ICCI and the members of ICCI Executive Body lauded the initiative of RDA for including ICCI president in its Facilitation Committee.
