Sindh IGP Mushtaq Mahar briefed a meeting headed by provincial chief minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah on Saturday regarding the security arrangements for the occasion of Rabiul Awal 12, which will be celebrated on October 30.
Mahar told the CM that six processions would be carried out on the day in Karachi, which would merge with the main procession. “The main procession will be taken out from Memon Masjid at noon, and will be safeguarded by 4,706 security personnel,” he stated, adding that the processions would culminate at designated locations.
He apprised the CM that 947 processions and 902 Mehfil-e-Milad would take place across Sindh.
Moreover, he stated that a Chup Tazia procession, on October 26, would start from Nishtar Park and end in Irania Hussainia and it would be protected by 8,000 police officers. Another procession would emerge from Rizvia Society going to Shah-e-Najaf and 1,200 police personnel would provide it security, he added.
Meanwhile, Shah met religious scholars to discuss and finalise the arrangements of the forthcoming Rabiul Awal processions.
“The Holy Prophet (PBUH) has taught us the lessons of brotherhood, tolerance and respect for others,” he said. “On the eve of Rabiul Awal 12, we must spread this message.”
Shah lauded the efforts of scholars from different schools of thought in promoting sectarian harmony and brotherhood in the province.
He maintained that he had directed the relevant authorities to provide all necessary facilities along procession routes across the province, and had further ordered K-Electric and other power utility companies to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply on the occasion.
He also directed the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, all deputy commissioners, district councils and others to improve their services during the month of Rabiul Awal.
Moreover, he announced a Milad-e-Nabvi would be held at the CM House.
The meeting was attended by Sindh Education Minister Saeed Ghani, Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab, Karachi Administrator Iftikhar Shahalwani, Karachi Commissioner Sohail Rajput and others.
