MUZAFFARABAD:

The 73rd foundation day of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government was celebrated throughout the territory on Saturday with firm determination and renewed pledge to continue the struggle until the liberation of illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

On the occasion, President Dr Arif Alvi greeted the Kashmiri people across the world and reiterated that the Pakistan stood firmly with its Kashmiri brothers and sisters for the fulfilment of their right to self-determination.

“On the 73rd foundation day of the Azad Government of Jammu and Kashmir I would like to congratulate Kashmiris all over the world,” Alvi tweeted. He supported the Kashmir people’s struggle for their right to self-determination. “You will succeed, Inshallah,” he president remarked.

The day is celebrated every year to mark the anniversary of the formation of the AJK government on October 24, 1947 after the territory was liberated by the valiant sons of the soil from the clutches of the India-backed despotic Dogra rule.

In AJK, functions and seminars were held on Saturday to pay homage to the martyrs, who laid down their lives for the liberation of the region. The main function was held in Muzaffarabad, where Azad Kashmir President Sardar Masood Khan was the chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider paid glowing tributes to the martyrs, Ghazis and Kashmiri freedom fighters, who offered unprecedented sacrifices for the liberation of this part of the state in 1947.

“Kashmir is indivisible unity and United Nations resolutions are also endorsed this fact,” he said. “All the governments who remained in power in Pakistan have maintained the sanctity of the state and expressed the hope that no government in Pakistan would support the division of Kashmir.”

He appreciated the bold, courageous and principled stand adopted by the Pakistan government on the Kashmir issue which “is a great source of inspirations for the Kashmiri people” living on the both sides of the Line of Control (LoC).

On this occasion Sardar Masood Khan gave away the presidential awards to prominent Hurriyet leaders Yaseen Malick, Aasia Andarabi and late Yousaf Buch for their unprecedented services for the Kashmir cause.
