All divisional commissioners and administrative secretaries have been directed to expedite the process of setting up ' Sasta Bazaar' across the province on an emergency basis to control price hikes.
This was directed by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz while chairing a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat on Wednesday.
Informing the meeting about the action taken against the artificial surge in prices, divisional commissioners said that the district administrations were constantly visiting markets to implement the government’s price lists while heavy fines are being imposed on violators.
As a result, the prices of essential items have decreased.
The meeting was informed that per the decision of the provincial cabinet, work on setting up of 'Sasta Insaf Bazaars' in all divisions is in full swing. Points have been identified in all districts for the sasta bazaars where essential items will be sold at subsidised rates.
District administrations were further directed to keep a close eye on the prices of sugar, ghee and other food items and ensure the supply of essential items to the public at government rates. Steps should be taken to prevent smuggling of wheat flour.
