The provincial department of school education issued on Monday condensed syllabi for the 2020-21 academic year's matric and intermediate annual examinations. Previously board exams were delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, then cancelled and students were graded according to previous performance, with the option to sit for a special exam.
According to a notification issued by the department, the syllabi have been jointly prepared by the Sindh Directorate of Curriculum, Assessment and Research, the Directorate of School Education and the boards of secondary and intermediate education, under the supervision of Working Group for Condensed Syllabus.
The notification states that the condensed syllabi covers all subjects taught to the students of grade nine to grade 12. These include English, Urdu, Islamiat, Biology, Computer Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Sindhi, among others.
The Islamiat syllabus for grade-nine students include Surah Al-Anfal and chapters Allah aur us kay Rasool (PBUH) (Allah and his Prophet (PBUH)) and Ilm ki Farziat aur Fazilat (The Obligations and Benefits of Knowledge), among other topics. The biology chapters covered in the syllabus for grade-nine students include Divisions and Branches of Biology, Respiration, Osmosis, Conservation of Biodiversity and Human Heart and Blood Disorders. Moreover, Functions of Operating System, Components of Communication Systems, Importance of Computer Security and Introduction to HTML are the chapters included in the computer science syllabus for grade-nine students, and Branches of Chemistry, Mole, Atomic and Mass Numbers, Types of Chemical Bonds and Solutions from Chemistry ate those covered in their chemistry syllabus. Chapters on types of motions, momentum, the centre of gravity, energy and temperature are among those included in the physics syllabus for grade nine.
The notification further details the chapters and topics to be covered for all subjects that the higher secondary grade students may be sitting for.
