JHELUM:

The unscrupulous elements in the wild life department are allowing poaching against illegal gratification, people living in the rural areas of Jhelum said.

Besides the protected Punjab Urial, Jhelum is famous for flocks of migratory birds. The locals have called for action against Punjab Wildlife Department officials for allowing illegal hunting in the area.

Concerned citizens told the Express Tribune that poaching was under way in different areas of Sohawa and Pind Dadan Khan with the collusion of the wildlife officials.

They said that rare animals and birds would go extinct if the practice continued.

When the wildlife department was approached for its version, the officials present there said they were not authorised to talk to the media.
