Disappointed at the apathetic behaviour of the government, the protesting Lady Health Workers (LHWs) said they will march towards the Parliament House once again on Monday as another dialogue attempt with the government failed on Saturday.
The LHWs continued their sit-in for the fourth consecutive day at D-Chowk in the federal capital.
The South Punjab Health Secretary came to talk with the protesting LHWs to end the protest and discuss about the demands they have put forward. However, no conclusion came out of the talks.
LHWs Union President Rukhsana Anwar claimed that there was a hostile environment at the dialogue. “The government side was only trying to intimidate us,” Anwar said adding that some of the officers who had come for talks with the LHWs were named in workplace harassment cases.
The government officials did not agree to even one of the 10 demands and refused to give anything in writing. LHWs said the government negotiators were only dummies and had no authority.
She said that the government had blocked their water, food, and even washroom facilities. She questioned the mysterious silence of the human rights organisations on the protest of the LHWs. “Are we not women, are we not fighting for a just cause of better pay package, then why are all these women rights bodies silent, why has not one of them spoken in our favour,” Anwar said.
However, she particularly thanked PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for sending them lunch on Saturday. She demanded the Pakistan Chief Justice take notice of the sit-in and make the government listen to their demands.
