Call to speed up Rawalpindi uplift

DC instructs officials to visit different areas to ensure cleanliness

The premier horticulture authority of the garrison city has asked the departments concerned to speed up work on Glorious Rawalpindi Project .

The Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Chairman Asif Mehmood on Saturday issued directives to expedite uplift work under the Glorious Rawalpindi Project.

He instructed PHA officials to utilise all resources to bring the beauty of the garrison city at par with its neighbouring federal capital.

Mehmood addressed the participants of a meeting led by the Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anwarul Haq on Saturday.

PHA chairman also instructed the related officials to install equal-sized display boards on all shops on GT Road along with embellishment of all pillars on Metro Bus track.

He also instructed to remove old advertisements from the signboards and replace them with newer ones in all areas of the garrison city. Further, DC instructed the district officials to visit different areas to ensure cleanliness and roads and drainage systems while he also ordered to remove all encroachments to smoothen traffic flow.

Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry initiated the Glorious Rawalpindi Project in June 2019 to facilitate citizens, enhance the natural beauty, and protect and rehabilitate the historical sites of the city. The project is going to transform everyday life in the city with elevated road networks, ultra-modern infrastructure, the community justice systems, and innovative environmental solutions.

Encroachment demolished

Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) demolished the main gates of four illegal housing schemes and sealed off their site offices on Chakri Road on Saturday.

RDA Directorate of Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering (MPTE) conducted the action on the directions of the authority chairman Tariq Murtaza.

MPTE Deputy Director Muhammad Aijaz said that they had issued notices to all four housing societies under Punjab Private Housing Schemes and Land Sub-Division Rules 2010.

He added that the site offices of the related housing projects were running illegitimately.

RDA chairman urged the people to refrain from investing in illegal housing schemes and only invest in housing schemes approved by the RDA.

He also urged the utility providers to stop giving connections to housing projects established illegally.
