The construction of roads across the city must be completed, while the renovation of footpaths, installation of street-lights and covering of manholes too must be finished soon, ordered Karachi Administrator Iftikhar Shallwani on Saturday.

Shallwani was presiding over a meeting with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation's engineering department, where he stated that contractors would not be paid the full amount until they completed the work in its entirety, as he directed the relevant officials to complete the pending schemes at the earliest.

He added that he would personally visit the sites to monitor the standards and materials for road construction.

Shallwani further directed the relevant authorities to lift debris immediately following the completion of work, in order to avoid inconvenience for citizens.

"We will request the Sindh government to release the amount for timely completion of the projects," he added.

He also issued directives regarding the maintenance of flyovers and said that expansion joints, bridge fencing and installation of street-lights should be done at Teen Hatti and Sohrab Goth bridges.

Moreover, Shallwani expressed displeasure over complaints received from West district, ordering the construction of roads at Sharae Orangi and Sharae Qaddafi.

Expressing concern over the deplorable state of Zaibunnisa Street from Preedy to Avari Towers, he said that it was one of the important roads of the city, with many markets and business centres located there.

"Many locals and foreigners visit Zaibunnisa Street daily. The road, its beautification and installation of street-lights should be completed soon," he maintained.

He also took notice of oversized signboards, stating that only standard-sized signboards should be put up in the city.
