The government is taking steps to put economy on a path of sustainable growth and create employment opportunities for the youth, said Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance Abdul Hafeez Shaikh.
Speaking to a delegation of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), he emphasised that unemployment would drop sharply in coming days.
“When the present government came to power, it had to face stiff challenges of a high current account deficit and artificially high exchange rate,” he said. “These factors were causing de-industrialisation, hampering exports and promoting an import-based economy.” Shaikh added that the government was focusing on enhancing exports and in that context, duties on some of the raw materials had been reduced.
