The Rawalpindi Forest Department has approved the construction of 10 small dams for the conservation of rainwater. These reservoirs will be built in the forests in the four mountainous tehsils of the division. The district forest department will bear the expenditures incurred on the construction of reservoirs. The accumulated rainwater will be used for irrigation purposes along with fulfilling the water needs of domestic animals. The water can also be used to extinguish forest fires. Forest Department Spokesperson Muhammad Nauman told The Express Tribune that construction on the reservoirs has begun. He added that work on the projects is expected to be completed by December after which the rainwater will be wasted. The official said that the water stored in the reservoirs would be used for drinking purposes as well after purification through filtration plants.
