Gang involved in online frauds busted

The Secretariat police have allegedly busted a network of fraudsters who were involved in online financial scams. Several Laptops, cell phones and mobile Sims of various cellular companies were recovered from them.

A police spokesperson said that they received a tip-off about a gang operating near the Bari Imam area. Subsequently, SP City Omer Khan constituted a special squad under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Secretariat Iqbal Hussain. The team, along with Secretariat police station SHO and other police officials raided the suspected den of the gang and arrested three people red-handed and recovered five laptops, 15 cell phones and 35 mobile subscriber identity modules (Sims) of various cellular companies.

The suspects were identified as Zaheer Abbas, Abil and Anees. They confessed to defrauding simpletons on the pretext of providing benefits under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and mobile cash transfer service for the past year.

SP Omer has urged victims of the scams to contact the relevant police stations so that a stronger case against the suspects can be built. Islamabad Police IGP Aamir Zulfiqar Khan and DIG Operations Waqaruddin Syed announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for the police team.
