NUST MCS’ Cyber Guard team wins FICS 2020

Idea was picked amongst 231 submissions in the three-stage competition

Team Cyber Guard of the Military College of Signals bagged the Finding Innovative and Creative Solutions for Society (FICS) 2020, competition.

The results of the three-stage competition were announced and prizes were given at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) on Tuesday.

The idea pitched by Cyber Guard was deemed better than the 230 other ideas pitched during the three-stage competition. A total of 31 finalists had demonstrated their prototypes for technology-based innovative solutions to four panels of judges at the grand finale.

The winning idea aims to monitor and prevent the pilferage and exfiltration of sensitive organisation data, either at rest or at motion.

Sponsored by the Army Welfare Trust (AWT), the winning team was awarded a cash prize of Rs100,000, while each of the first three runners-up and winners of the special categories in three SGDs was awarded Rs20,000 each.

The winning teams were also awarded six-month free incubation space at TechOne – NUST’s Incubation Centre.

Addressing the distribution ceremony, NUST Rector Lt Gen (retired) Naweed Zaman stressed the need to improve the standard of life, especially of the underprivileged, through technological interventions.

He praised NUST students for coming up with brilliant and innovative ideas. He also acknowledged the efforts of faculty supervisors and management of NUST schools and colleges for their continuous guidance and supervision; NUST alumni for their mentoring of students and the industry partners for their support, in making FICS a success over the years.
