Doctors, nurses and paramedics of government hospitals in Karachi and Sindh at large staged yet another protest on Tuesday for the approval of their demands including the provision of health risk allowance and the restoration of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). The doctors led by the Grand Health Alliance also boycotted out-patient departments at hospitals in protest.

The doctors have 13 focal demands which include the provision of the health risk allowance on permanent basis, abolishment of the newly introduced Pakistan Medical Commission, provision of health insurance to all healthcare professionals, and a four-tier formula for general cadre, doctors and nurses.

The protesting doctors said that they will announce their strategy on Thursday and protest outside the Karachi Press Club if their demands are not met. They held banners and shouted slogans calling for their demands.

Meanwhile, patients visiting the OPDs at public hospitals faced inconvenience as the healthcare staff was on strike and unavailable.
