Ayan wins big in 2nd K-P transgender sport festival
Prominent transgender Ayan Ali alias Dolphin clinched gold and silver medals in different fields at the 2nd Khyber-Paktunkhwa Transgender Sports Festival held in Peshawar on Tuesday.
Ayan, who studied in Edwards College Peshawar and is civil engineer by vocation, beat her rivals in archery competition by securing 110 points and bagging gold medal.
Another player, Tweety scored 90 points and got the silver medal whereas Sobia secured third position in the archery contest.
In the musical chairs game, Sobia Khan got gold medal followed by Shaista and Areen securing silver and bronze respectively.
In the cycling competition, transgender who goes by name Spogmay won gold medal by covering a one kilometre distance in 2 minutes and 55 seconds followed by Irfan who secured second position and Javeria came third.
Overwhelming enthusiasm witnessed among the transgender players along with other participants and the spectators.
In the Tug of War game, Sobia Jan of Peshawar team defeated Paro XI team by 2-1.
Sobia XI team secured the victory and grabbed the gold medal and the winner’s trophy.
In the cricket match, Zara XI beat its rival team Paro XI by four wickets.
Sport competitions were held for the transgender community to engage them in healthy activities, which include competitions in archery, athletics, tug-of-war, football, cricket and musical chairs.
A total of 250 Transgender players from across the province participated in the event.
K-P Secretary Sports Junaid Khan was the chief guest at the awarding ceremony, who along with Director Youth Affairs Dr Irum Shaheen, Deputy Director Youth Saleem Jan, Director Female Games Rashida Ghaznavi and Director General Sports K-P Asfandyar Khan Khattak graced the occasion and distributed trophies, cash prizes and certificates among the participants.
The winners of the team and individual events were awarded Rs5,000 and the runners-up got Rs3,000 along with the other prizes.
