KARACHI:

The Counter Terrorism Department's (CTD) investigation police claimed on Monday to have arrested a member of the banned terrorist outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and a target killer of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement in separate operations in Korangi.

The police reportedly seized weapons from their possession as well.

A man named Minhajuddin alias Minhaj, affiliated with the TTP, was arrested in the first operation, according to CTD investigation in-charge Chaudhry Safdar. Minhajuddin, who belongs to TTP's Banu Akhtar Group, was a bomb-making and installing expert, said Safdar. The CTD police believe that he was in Karachi as part of his plans to leave the country.

The TTP militant was involved in the murders of three members of the Aman Jirga, claimed Safdar, adding that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police had been contacted to gain information about Minhajuddin's criminal record.

Separately, in a second operation, the CTD investigation police arrested a man named Lal Badshah, an alleged target killer belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London, said Safdar adding that weapons were also confiscated from Badshah's possession.

According to Safdar, Badshah was an accomplice of notorious MQM worker and suspected target killer Raees alias Mama.

"He was involved in the murders of nationalist leaders of the Jeay Sindh party in 2010," said Safdar, adding that Badshah had been booked in a case at the CTD police station and investigations have been launched against him.
