‘Peshawar BRT to resume operations on Oct 25’

PESHAWAR:

The provincial government has announced that the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service will resume on October 25.

This was disclosed by Special Assistant to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister on Information Kamran Bangash as he addressed the media on Sunday.

Bangash said that capacitors in the entire fleet of BRT have been changed and the transport facility is expected to resume operations before the end of the month.

To a question, the special assistant said that the date for resuming the bus service will not be changed. He said that engineers of the manufacturing company have managed to track the fault, which had grounded the entire bus service, to the capacitors installed in them. The device has been replaced with new ones in all 70 buses of the BRT. The bus service is now expected to be restored as all buses have been given technical clearance by the manufacturers, he added.

TransPeshawar, the government-owned company responsible for operations of the BRT, had suspended the transport service in September for inspection of its fleet after four of its buses had caught fire spontaneously and with passengers aboard. The company said that the safety of the commuters was its foremost priority and the decision was taken in the public interest.
