Netflix reveals first look of 'The Witcher 2'

Upcoming season is expected to release in 2021

The production of the second season of the Netflix fantasy drama, The Witcher 2, had resumed in August following a hiatus since March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But now, the eight-episode second season is expected to air sometime in 2021, according to Entertainment Weekly.

It was obvious that Henry Cavill’s Witcher, along with Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer and Freya Allan’s Ciri will be returning for a second round. But several new actors are joining the cast as well, including Kristofer Hivju (who played Tormond Giantsbane in the Game of Thrones) as Nivellen.

Not only that, Netflix has also revealed the first official look of the Witcher from season 2, along with the new, grown up and improved Ciri.

Cavill took to Instagram on Monday to share two photos revealing his Geralt of Rivia from the upcoming season. The photos unveiled Geralt’s new “ab armor” but things became more interesting when Netflix revealed pictures of season 2 Ciri.

Still played by Freya Allan, even if she practically looks like she was recast due to the transformation, the princess seems to have turned into a potential warrior. The upcoming season has rid Ciri of her previous “ghostly elf child” vibe and made her more intense, more dark, according to Forbes.

After the breakout popularity of the first season in 2019, Netflix has also announced a six-part live-action prequel series titled Blood Origin – telling the story of the first Witcher, along with an animated film.
