Uptick in Covid-19 cases alarming: official

RAWALPINDI/ ISLAMABAD:

At least 23 new coronavirus (Covid-19) cases were reported in Islamabad and 45 in Rawalpindi during the last 24 hours, as per official data.

Out of the total cases reported for the day in Rawalpindi, at least 15 infections were detected in the educational institutions.

Islamabad District Health Office (DHO) reported that 53 Covid-19 patients were reported on Sunday including 28 males and 25 females. Islamabad District Health Officer Zaeem Zia has cautioned against the rise in cases of Covid-19 in Islamabad

The tally of active coronavirus cases in Islamabad has been stated to be 510. So far, the number of people infected by the virus in the federal capital has reached 16,819 of which 16,073 have fully recovered. Until now, some 183 people have succumbed to the infection in the capital territory.

Further, some 20 people infected with the pandemic virus are receiving treatment in different hospitals in Rawalpindi. Some 15 of the new cases surfaced from different educational institutions.

Meanwhile, Government Girls College Dhmayal was reopened after no traces of coronavirus in reports of random swab samples from the institution. The reports of samples collected from as many as 1,100 institutions were awaited.
