PESHAWAR:

Khyber Medical College (KMU) has been closed sealed for two weeks after the several students and a teacher contracted coronavirus.

The KMC Girls Hostel had already been sealed off after four students residing there tested positive for coronavirus.

After the surfacing of positive cases in one of the girls’ hostel, some 573 swab samples were collected from other hostels as well. Due to the impending threat of virus spread, the KMC has been shut down for two weeks.

The KMC administration issued a circular in this regard which stated that the measure was taken on the recommendation of the Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) Board of Governors and Infection Control Committee.

Only the forensic medicine department will remain functional during these two weeks while the pathological department employees have been instructed to ensure their presence in blood banks and laboratories of the KTH.

Further, the students have been directed to visit the medical college’s website for further updates.

Meanwhile, some 19 students and a teacher of the KTH Nursing School have been tested positive for coronavirus. One case has been reported from the boys' hostel too.
