IHC orders immediate restoration of ex-FIA DG’s pension

Court questions how was the allowance withheld once it was released

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered the restoration of pension of former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general (DG) Bashir Memon.

The case was heard by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah.

Accountant General of Pakistan Revenues (AGPR) representative told the court that finance and establishment secretaries had asked him to write to them so that they could seek an advice from the Law Division.

The IHC CJ inquired why was the case being made so complicated and that who had asked to seek an advice from the Law Division as if the case was pending before the court.

He asked how was the pension withheld once it was released.

He further questioned whether the former DG had committed a crime by tendering his resignation and wondered what would be happening with a common man when a senior officer like Memon was treated in such a manner.

The judge noted that the AGPR had not challenged the retirement notification of Memon and observed that officers who had performed their duties with honesty should not be meted out such a treatment.

He questioned the AGPR representative about the delay caused in the case and expressed displeasure over the statement that high-level secretaries were willing to seek an advice from the Law Division on the issue.

The IHC ordered immediate restoration of pension of the former FIA DG and accepted his plea on the matter.
