Your bedroom is a safe space that you curate for yourself to come back to after a hard day’s work. Or a sanctuary to just relax in on a lazy day perhaps!

It should reflect your personality and also provide you with the best comfort. This is why knowing what elements to use is so important! Your bedroom colour choices can directly affect how well you rest in the evenings and so, experts have joined their heads to come up with some colours that will guarantee the best comfort. As compiled from Reader’s Digest, here is a list of six colours that you need to avoid putting in your bedroom.

·        Black

Of course, black tops the list. While we all love it in other aspects of our life, black walls do nothing for a room. Besides darkening it, black also creates an illusion of a smaller space. It will also psychologically decrease your energy.

Experts suggest avoiding painting all four walls black top to bottom and instead, getting creative with paint placement and choosing a feature wall or leaving the trims out, etc.

·        Neon

Neon colours bring a vibrancy that can make unwinding hard. You should always avoid using neon colours such as electric lime and magenta as they bring excitement and energy into the bedroom. Instead, lighter shades like beige are always the better choice.

·        Yellow
Yellow is a bright colour, directly associated with morning brightness and the sun, which is exactly why you would want to avoid it in a bedroom. While the cheerful tone may be great for daytime, those who opt for a lemon-hued room are more likely to experience difficulty falling asleep at night.

·        Red

Just like yellow, red is a bright, striking colour often associated with alertness. While there is no doubt about the warm hues of red being uber-stylish, in a bedroom, they can easily agitate. These colours are often used in marketing as they stimulate the senses and that is not something you want when trying to fall asleep.

·        Orange

Orange also activates the senses, even if it’s a subdued version of it.

·        Dark Brown

Much like black, dark brown’s heaviness usually brings a gloomy feel, making it harder to get out of the bed. However, it’s not all bad though; this is one colour that can be used smartly and not chucked right out. You can opt for lighter or more muted versions of it, or just use it as an accent colour, instead of the main.
