Nadia Jamil has raised her voice on a multiple occasions about issues women face in the country due to societal conventions. In a recent Twitter thread, she shared her thoughts on arbitrary image standards set by society that over the years have had detrimental consequences for women.

“As women, we are conditioned to idolise a much colonised, stereotyped image of beauty. Being in the business of narrating stories, it’s not always easy but so essential to ask people to challenge these stereotypes,” Jamil said.
At the same time, the actor told her followers to not get dismayed, noting that things are changing gradually. “One must not lose hope as we may very well be witnessing a much-awaited revolution, one that has taken time but is happening and here now,” she added.

The Damsa star went on to give the example of a fairness brand changing its name after being called out for promoting something that is considered problematic. “The name change is one of the important steps that needed to be taken in order to challenge the crushing gora complex we suffer from as a nation. Hoping to see other brands becoming more inclusive in their communication,” she said.
Jamil has been battling cancer for quite a few months now and is keen on sharing updates of her recovery and the introspection she’s been doing through it. Back in August, she announced that she is “out of the danger zone” in terms of her cancer.

Fortunately, the illness however has not stopped her from speaking out against injustices in society as she always had. During the aftermath of the motorway incident, while many called for public executions and strict action, Jamil talked about how social overhaul is needed, stressing on education and upbringing.
