Chadwick Boseman’s passing back in August left the fate of Black Panther and by extension, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), hanging in the balance. This has resulted in various speculations on how MCU will carry one of its flagship properties going into Phase 4.
Given that T’Challa is very much alive following the events of Avengers: Endgame, two possibilities arise, the first one being that MCU goes on to cast a new actor to play the role. This is highly unlikely, since fans could perceive it as a disservice to the late Boseman. The second possibility is that T’Challa is written out, similar to how Brian O’Conner was treated in the Fast and Furious franchise following Paul Walker’s 2013 death. Alternatively, the king of Wakanda could die off screen.
Either way, this would mean that the mantle of the Black Panther is passed on to Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, T’Challa’s headstrong sister in the film. A recent report published on We Got This Covered cites unnamed sources close to the matter confirming this. The report refers to them as the same sources who “said Ben Affleck is returning as Batman in The Flash and the Fast and Furious franchise is heading into outer space.”
The lineup for the New Avengers in MCU’s Phase 4 is said to include Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, She-Hulk, War Machine, Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Shang-Chi, Yelena Belova’s Black Widow, Wolverine and Shuri’s Black Panther.
