The Supreme Court has sought a reply from the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) over the rejection of Pakistan Broadcasters Association’s (PBA) application for new channels.
A three-member bench, headed by Justice Mushir Alam, heard the appeal of PBA against Pemra on Thursday.
At the outset of the hearing, Justice Yahya Khan Afridi asked the PBA lawyer if the association had challenged any law.
Lawyer Faisal Siddiqui replied that the PBA had not challenged any law but Pemra did not meet the legal requirements in the hearing on PBA’s request.
Justice Yahya Afridi questioned the Pemra lawyer whether legal requirement was fulfilled.
Pemra lawyer Mudassar Khalid Abbasi sought time to submit a written reply which was accepted by the court.
The court granted Pemra two-week time to submit a written reply and adjourned the hearing for two weeks.
