Members of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defence, headed by MNA Amjad Ali Khan, visited North Wazirstan – a tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) bordering Afghanistan – on Tuesday.

On arrival, the delegation laid floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offered Fateha, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The delegation was given detailed briefing on operation Radd-ul-Fasaad and ongoing intelligence based operations [IBOs] in the area.

The military’s media wing said the lawmakers were also apprised about socio-economic projects to uplift the tribal areas. “The delegation appreciated army’s efforts in bringing normalcy not only in the area but efforts for peace and stability in the country,” said the statement.

They also paid rich tribute to martyrs for their supreme sacrifices in the line of duty.

On Monday, Prime Minister Imran Khan also assured provision of funds for the socio-economic development of tribal districts of K-P during his visit to the province.

He said the erstwhile Federally-Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) lagged behind in development and it was the government’s focus to establish industries in the region for export of goods to Afghanistan and beyond to the Central Asian states. “Border markets are also being set-up to provide opportunities to locals,” he added.

K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has also directed authorities to draft a development plan to develop the merged tribal district of South Waziristan, identifying schemes for education, health and public health engineering sectors.
