RAWALPINDI:

The Rawalpindi Excise and Taxation Department on Sunday reminded residents of the garrison city that they have three more days to avail a 25 per cent discount on paying the token tax of their vehicles.

Rawalpindi Assistant Excise and Taxation Officer (AETO) Sohail Shahzad said that residents can pay their vehicular tax by September 30 through their online payment service, E-Pay and avail a 25 per cent discount.

On the directions of the provincial excise and taxation department, a new policy had been announced to facilitate vehicle and property, tax owners. He added that when residents pay before the deadline, instead of a 10 per cent concession, they will be entitled to a 20 per cent rebate besides waiver of surcharges on outstanding dues. Moreover, they can avail a chance to get an additional five per cent concession by paying through the online service, E-Pay, he added.

The department had also announced a 10 per cent concession for property taxpayers, he said.

If vehicles are caught without token tax after the deadline, they will be impounded and fined, particularly commercial vehicles. For those wishing to pay the tax at the excise office, he asked them to seek an appointment through the Appointment Management System (AMS), accessible through its particular mobile application. He said that the app had been launched to prevent overcrowding in the office and to ensure social distancing to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19).
