Amazon is developing a spinoff to its superhero show The Boys, reported The Hollywood Reporter.
The upcoming series that currently doesn't have a name to it, is set at America's only college for young aspiring superheroes — which is run by Vought International. Written by The Boys executive producer Craig Rosenberg, much like the parent show, the spinoff is expected to be for mature and adult audiences — described as part college show and part Hunger Games — that follows the lives of hormonal, competitive aspiring superheroes as they put their moral boundaries to the test.
While the show had been talked about for a while, production has been put on the fast track in view of the success of the second of the parent show.
Nielsen's SVOD Content Ratings, which measure US viewing only, said the first season of The Boys averaged 4.1 million viewers per episode over its first 10 days of release. Unlike the current season, the first run was released all at once.
The spinoff comes from Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television in association with Point Grey Pictures, Kripke Enterprises and Original Film. Rosenberg, who has an overall deal at Sony, will executive produce with The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke; Point Grey's Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver; and Original Film's Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty. Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, creators of The Boys comic series, are also exec producing, as are Ken Levin and Jason Netter.
