Two alleged MQM-L target killers arrested

Police claim accused confessed to crimes

The Sindh Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Friday claimed the arrest of two alleged hitmen affiliated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L).

The arrested suspects, identified as Munawar and Wasim alias commander, had confessed to murdering more than 18 people according to police officials.

“Accused had been arrested and jailed five times before,” CTD officials said. “They have confessed about being involved in more than 18 incidents of targeted killings. The accused said that they carried out all the hits on the orders of sector in-charge of Pak Colony, Sarwar alias Dilawar.”

The CTD official leading the investigation claimed that the accused were involved in various murders between 1995 and 2012, during which they murdered three police officials and two deputy-directors of the [provincial] education department.

The police added that the accused had also committed hundreds of robberies since 1995.

In July, Ibrahim Hyderi Police claimed to have arrested an MQM-L target killer affiliated Zahid Bengali and confiscated a hand grenade and TT pistol from his possession.

According to police, Bengali was involved in killing several citizens and MQM-L’s political opponents.

He had been booked in various cases of murder, attempt to murder and robbery, the police said, adding that seven of those cases, in which Bengali was declared an absconder, were registered at Ibrahim Hyderi Police Station.
